The Pacific Tigers men's basketball team dropped a 60-53 decision to No. 21 Nevada on Saturday, December 16 at the Lawlor Events Center in Reno. The Tigers fall to 3-8 on the season, while the Wolf Pack improves to 9-1.
In the first half, the Tigers missed their first six shots from the field, as the Wolf Pack got out to a 6-0 lead. The Tigers fought back with a 12-2 run to take a 20-14 lead and led 26-22 at halftime.
Pacific improved its halftime lead to seven (29-22), but Nevada hit five of six three-pointers in an 18-2 run that turned the game around and gave the Wolf Pack a 40-31 lead with 14:26 remaining. The Tigers cut it back to three (40-37) on consecutive three-pointers by seniors Wolfgang Raffety (Placerville, Calif.) and Michael White (Capitola, Calif.). Nevada used another 9-2 run to extend the lead to 10 at 51-41 with 7:49 left in the game. The Tigers were able to the cut the lead to three with 1:08 left in the game but the Wolf Pack got a basket from Denis Ikovlev to get the lead to five with 48 seconds left and were able to hold off the Tigers.
Sophomore Steffan Johnson (Kent, Wash.) led the Tigers with 11 points, while junior Solomon Horsechief (Muskogee, Okla.) and sophomore Anthony Brown (Sacramento, Calif.) each added 10 points. HorseChief scored all 10 points in the first half.
The Tigers shot just 33.9% from the field and had eight shots blocked.
Marcellus Kemp led Nevada with 19 points.
The Tigers are next in action at No. 7 Wisconsin on Saturday, Dec. 23.
