Tigers Let Broncos Slip By For A 74-67

Santa Clara, Calif. - The Pacific women's basketball team fell on the road to Santa Clara, 74-67, on Tuesday, December 12. The loss dropped the Tigers to 4-6 on the season while the Broncos improved to 6-4 overall.

In the game, the Tigers found their stroke from the charity stripe, setting a new program record as they hit 16-of-16 from the line throughout the game.

Pacific struck first in the game as the Tigers broke out to a quick 10-4 lead over the first four minutes of the game. Santa Clara responded as the Broncos closed the gap to within one point over the next three minutes but the Tigers pushed their lead to nine points at 22-13 with 11:32 remaining in the first half with a run of their own.

Down nine points, Santa Clara staged a 16-0 run, taking a seven point at 29-22 with 6:21 remaining in the first half. The Broncos held their lead the rest of the way despite the stellar free throw shooting of the Tigers, at one point leading by as much as 14 points while Pacific got as close as six points on various occasions.

The Tigers were led by freshman Jake Kelly (Sacramento, Calif.) who scored 17 points, including hitting 3-of-10 from behind the arc. Kelly nearly had her first double-double of her career as she grabbed nine rebounds in the contest while also dishing out four assists. From the line, Kelly hit all eight of her free throw attempts.

Sophomore Karen Dawkins (Colorado Springs, Colo.) posted her fifth double-double of the season as she posted 14 points and 11 rebounds in the loss. From the field, Dawkins hit 6-of-9 shots. Freshman Emma Head (San Diego, Calif.) netted her first double-figure point total as she scored 10 points including going 4-of-4 from the line. On the boards, Head posted seven rebounds, six coming on the offensive glass.

The Broncos were led by Chandice Cronk who scored a game-high 24 point on 8-of-14 shooting including 7-of-13 from distance. Jen Gottschalk added 12 points for Santa Clara while Tracey Walker and Ashley Gonnerman each netted 10 points in the contest. On the boards, Kasey Monteith pulled down 11 rebounds.

The Tigers will next be in action on Friday, December 15, as they come home to the Alex G. Spanos Center to host the Hornets of Sacramento State. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
