Nov. 24, 2006

Box Score

Stillwater, Okla. The Pacific women's basketball team suffered an 86-56 defeat at Oklahoma State on November 24. With the loss the Tigers fell to 1-2 overall while the Cowgirls improved to a perfect 4-0 on the season.

A quick start by the home Cowgirls had the Tigers down early as Oklahoma State reeled off 24 of the first 31 points to gain a 17 point advantage midway through the opening half. From there, both teams exchanged baskets until the halftime buzzer as the Tigers entered the break down 18 at 43-25.

Despite the deficit, the Tigers came out running in the second half, cutting 12 points off the Cowgirls lead in just four minutes of play. The run was spurred on by junior Kelsey Lavender (Lake Oswego, Ore.) who scored eight of her game-high 20 points before the first media timeout of the second half.

However, the Cowgirls' size and depth would prove to be too much for the Tigers as from the 14:34 mark in the half, Oklahoma State would go on a 30-7 run over the next 10 minutes to break open the contest.

Overall, Lavender led all scorers as she posted a season-high 20 points on 8-of-18 shooting including 4-of-9 from distance. Sophomore Karen Dawkins (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was held to just seven points on 2-of-7 shooting from inside but pulled down seven rebounds. Senior Jerise Freeman (Wichita, Kan.) posted 10 points off the bench in 23 minutes of action for Pacific.

On the other side of the court, the Cowgirls saw four players reach double figures led by Rashidat Sadiq"s 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Joining Sadiq were starters Maria Cordero and Andrea Riley who each scored 14 points in the contest. Cordero posted a team-high seven rebounds as well. Off the bench Christian Hood added 12 points and also had seven rebounds.

Pacific shot 32.8% from the field while its counterpart, Oklahoma State, shot 40.9%. On the night the Cowgirls held a 56-35 rebounding advantage, including 19 offensive rebounds.

The Tigers will next be in action on Sunday, November 26 as they travel to Wichita, Kan. to take on Wichita State. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 pm (PT).
