Riverside, Calif. - The Pacific women's volleyball team continued their recent road dominance as the Tigers defeated UC Riverside, 3-0, on Friday, Oct. 13.
With the win the Tigers moved to 6-11 on the season and 3-2 in the Big West Conference, while UC Riverside dropped to 2-16 overall and 0-6 in conference play.
Game scores for the match were: 30-19, 30-18, 30-22.
The Tigers and Highlanders each came out firing on high in game one as each team posted their best hitting percentages. The Tigers delivered 17 kills on 37 swings and committed just three errors for a .378 mark. UC Riverside, meanwhile, had 13 kills and three errors on 35 attempts to post a .286 percentage.
Pacific took control of the first game with the score 6-6 as the Tigers claimed five of the next six points to build an 11-7 edge. The difference was execution on Pacific's part as the Tigers forced UC Riverside into a service error to take a 7-6 lead, then combined two service aces with kills from sophomore Alexa Anderson (Los Gatos, Calif.) and freshman Meagan MimMack (Upland, Calif.) to push the lead to four. Pacific's lead had grown to five points at 24-19, when the Tigers slammed the door on UC Riverside with six straight points to take game one 30-19.
Pacific carried the momentum of a game one win into the second game as the Tigers turned a 3-3 tie into a 10-3 lead with seven straight points. MimMack led the Pacific charge with two kills during the run, while the Tigers forced UC Riverside into three attacking errors. As game two continued, the Tigers extended their lead to as much as 13 points at 23-10 and went on to win game two, 30-18. Pacific out hit the Highlanders, .306 to .000 in the second game.
Following the break, UC Riverside returned to the court with renewed energy and enthusiasm as the Highlander took an early 5-3 lead. MimMack responded for Pacific with a forceful kill in the middle, followed by a service ace from junior Johanna Hilbers (Omaha, Neb.) to tie the game at 5-5. Moments later with the Tigers holding a slim 13-12 advantage, Pacific collected eight of the next nine points to gain a stranglehold on the match. Pacific went on to take their first 3-0 win of the season by a 30-22 score.
MimMack led the way for Pacific with 13 kills and a .480 hitting percentage, while Hilbers finished with 12 kills.
UC Riverside's Ashley Halperin paced the Highlanders with 13 kills.
Pacific returns to the court on Saturday, Oct. 14 as the Tigers take on Long Beach State at 7 p.m. in the Walter Pyramid.
