Stockton, Calif. - In a game that featured 61 fouls, the Pacific Tigers women's basketball team fell to UC Irvine, 85-72, on Sunday, Jan. 15.

The loss dropped Pacific to 4-12 on the season and 1-4 in the Big West Conference, while UC Irvine moved to 3-13 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

A sluggish and sloppy start for the Tigers resulted in just six points through the first ten minutes of play and a 14 point deficit as the Anteaters took advantage to open a 20-6 lead. With the lead increasing and Pacific finding themselves down by as much as 18 points with 7:25 remaining in the first half, the Tigers took the momentum of the game as they were able to run, outscoring UC Irvine 21-8 over the final seven minutes. The first half witnessed 27 fouls called with 20 of those coming in the first 13 minutes of the half.

Down five at the break, Pacific continued to push the Anteaters' defense, finally taking the lead for the first time in the game with 13:18 to play at 49-48 on a layup by senior Wyvonne Jones (Wichita, Kan.). Jones finished the game 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting. As the game see-sawed back and forth, the Tigers continued to push holding the lead at 66-64 before the momentum would take a drastic shift over to UC Irvine.

Already in the double bonus, the Anteaters were rewarded with four free-throw attempts after redshirt freshman Karen Dawkins (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was whistled for an over the back foul and then was hit with a technical foul. UC Irvine's Angie Ned proceeded to make 3-of-4, giving the Anteaters a 67-66 lead, from which they would never look back.

On the night, the Tigers were led by senior Tina Sanerivi (Waipuha, Hawaii) who scored a game and season-high 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Additionally, Sanerivi pulled down eight rebounds, two short of notching her first double-double of the season. Jones finished with 12 points and sophomore Tyler Moran (Carmel, Calif.) netted 10 to round out the Tigers' double digit scoring.

For the Anteaters, four players reached double figures led by Ned who scored 18 points while going 6-of-12 from the floor. Kelly Cochran tallied 16 points and eight rebounds for the game while Kirian Ishizaki and Melissa Jacob each had 11 points.

Four Pacific players, including three starters, fouled out of the contest while one UC Irvine starter fouled out. 75 free-throws were attempted in the game as the Anteaters outshot the Tigers from the stripe, 82.5%-to-62.9%.

The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 21 as they travel to Davis, Calif. to face UC Davis at 2 p.m.
