Stockton, Calif. - Senior Ashley Groothuis (Aurora, Neb.) and junior Allison Ianni (East Lansing, Mich.) reach individual milestones as the Pacific Tigers women's volleyball team defeated Cal State Fullerton, 3-1, on Saturday, Oct. 22. Game scores for the match were 17-30, 30-24, 30-22, 30-15.
After dropping game one, 30-17, the Tigers came alive in the next three games. Leading 15-14, the Tigers took control of game two with eight of the next nine points. Sophomore Kara Uhl (Cypress, Calif.) led the Pacific charge with three kills and an ace during the run to give Pacific a 23-15 lead. The Tigers pushed the lead to as much as ten points at 27-17 and took game two, 30-24.
Coming out of the break, Pacific capitalized on the momentum of game two, taking a 2-1 lead in the match by winning game three 30-22. The Tigers hit an amazing .488 in the third game as Pacific had 21 kills and just one error on 41 swings. The Titans, meanwhile, had just 10 kills and committed four attack errors on 33 attempts for a .182 hitting percentage.
Game four saw Pacific display one of its finest performances of the season as the Tigers had six service aces and 17 kills. Pacific hit .552 in the fourth and decisive game, committed only one error on 29 attempts.
Groothuis led the Tigers with a match-high 19 kills as she moved into Pacific top ten in career kills. Ashley now has 1,297 kills in her career with the Tigers, placing her tenth all-time.
Ianni's 48 assists were also a match-high, she passed the 1,000 assist plateau with her fourth assist of the match. She now has 1,044 assists in her career, placing her tenth on the all-time Pacific list.
Uhl finished with 16 kills and Pacific freshman Rebecca Mason (Los Gatos, Calif.) had a career-high 12 digs.
Sarah Morrison led Cal State Fullerton with 14 kills in the match.
The Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 25 as Pacific will host Eastern Washington in a non-conference match at 7 p.m. in the Alex G. Spanos Center.
