Pacific Signs Three for 2005 Season

Nov. 10, 2005

STOCKTON, Calif. - University of the Pacific Head Women's Volleyball Coach Jayne McHugh announced today the signing of three recruits for the 2005 women's volleyball season. The Tigers signed Kelly Campbell (Mansfield, Ohio), Nikki Jagd (Palos Verdes Peninsula, Calif.), and Meagan Mim Mack (Upland, Calif.) to national letters of intent.

Campbell, a 6-0 outside hitter from Mansfield, Ohio, is currently a senior at Madison High School. A four-year letterwinner in volleyball, she earned All-Ohio honorable mention honors as a sophomore in 2002, a second team selection as a junior in 2003, and a first team bid this season. She was named to the Ohio Heartland Conference first team her first two seasons and garnered Ohio Cardinal Conference Offensive Player of the Year recognition as a junior and senior. Campbell earned all-district honors each of her four years, including District Player of the Year distinction in 2003 and 2004. A two-year captain for her Madison HS team, she holds the Ohio State record for service aces in a single match with 16 against Orrville HS on Sept. 16, 2004. She is third all-time in Ohio for single season service aces with 113 in 2004. Campbell was a 2004 member of the USA Junior National A-2 Camp. She was listed at No. 36 on Prepvolleyball.com's list of the top 100 "Senior Aces" in August 2004.

"Kelly will immediately provide depth at the outside hitter position," McHugh said. "She was a very early verbal commitment, and her excitement level about joining the Pacific volleyball program will raise the excitement level in our gym. Her deadly jump serve and outside attacking will have an immediate impact on the team."

Jagd, a 5-11 setter, will join the Tigers from Palos Verdes Peninsula High School, where she is currently a senior. Jagd earned team MVP honors for the Palos Verdes Peninsula HS volleyball team as she led the Panthers to a third place Bay League finish and the third round of the CIF Division I-AA playoffs as a junior. She also served as her team's captain. At the club level, Jagd competed for the Mizuno Long Beach club program during her junior year of high school. Her 17 Mizuno team earned the bronze medal in the 17 Open division at the 2004 Junior Olympics in Houston, Texas, and ended the season ranked No. 5 in the nation. She will compete for the Southern California Volleyball Club this season. Nikki's mother, Kim, is in her 12th year as an assistant coach at UCLA after playing for the Bruins in the mid-1980s. Her father, Mike, served as her high school coach.

"We are very excited about Nikki joining the team," McHugh said. "Her location as a setter is amazing. She puts the ball where the hitters want it most of the time. She plays like a coach's daughter and is cagey and smart, which are important traits for a setter. Nikki is the daughter of a very good friend, and it's exciting to be a continued part of their lives."

Mim Mack is a 6-2 middle blocker from Upland High School in Upland, Calif. Her Upland HS volleyball squad is currently competing in the CIF Southern Section Division I-AA playoffs. A three-sport athlete in volleyball, basketball, and softball, Mim Mack earned All-Baseline League first team and All-CIF Southern Section second team honors as a junior in 2003. She was also named to the Redondo Power Classic All-Tournament Team her junior year. At the club level, Meagan competes for the Rancho Valley Volleyball Club, under the direction of coach Danny Scott. Her club team placed in the top five at the Davis Festival last season.

"The blocking ability Meagan possesses is that which can completely dominate a match," McHugh said. "She attacks very well behind the setter. She has only competed at a high level of volleyball for a very short time, and it's exciting because she is going to improve every day."
