Biography
2012 (Senior):
In her final season at Pacific, Koala went out with her best all-time performance as she posted 506 digs while averaging 4.02 digs per set. For the senior, her numbers along the backline proved to be some of the top numbers all-time for Pacific as she became just the fifth Tiger in program history to record 500+ digs in a single season as her 506 digs ranked No. 4 all-time. Additionally, the senior finished No. 8 all-time in digs per set with her 4.02 average in 2012. With Koala leading the way, the Tigers finished the year ranked No. 24 in the nation in digs per set as Pacific averaged 17.67 digs. For her career, Koala posted 744 digs while averaging 3.22 per set, a number which placed the libero at No. 5 all-time in the record books.
2011 (Junior):
Starting the year as a defensive specialist for the Tigers, Matsuoka took over Pacific’s starting libero role midway through the season, holding the job throughout conference play until the end of the year. In her first action on the court for the Tigers after missing her first year due to injury, Matsuoka finished with 238 digs while averaging 2.27 per game. In 16 conference matches, Koala finished with 128 digs, averaging 2.25 digs per game.
2010 (Redshirt):
Koala was forced to medically redshirt her first year at Pacific after sustaining a knee injury in training just prior to the start of the season.
Prior School (George Mason):
Transferring to Pacific, Matsuoka came to the Tigers out of George Mason University where she spent her freshman season as a Libero for the Patriots. Playing in 21 matches her freshman season, Matsuoka was named to the Colonial Athletic Association All-Rookie Team. Matsuoka finished her inaugural campaign second on the team in digs with 264 on the year as she posted a team-best 3.47 digs per set. In 13 of her 21 matches, Matsuoka hit the double-digit dig plateau while posting a season-high 29 digs against William & Mary on November 6, a mark which stands as the fourth-best single game total in George Mason program history.
High School:
A graduate of Kamehameha School in Kapalama, Matsuoka helped lead her team to the 2009 Hawaii state championship after earning Oceanic Cable Team Player Award honors in her only year playing varsity volleyball. In addition to volleyball, Matsuoka also excelled as a soccer and paddling team member during her athletic career.
Personal:
Koalaanuheamaikalani Matsuoka is the daughter of Michelle and Scott Matsuoka. She is majoring in psychology in her third year at Pacific.
