2014 (Junior):
Splitting time in the middle of the offense with Andie Shelton, Whitson played in 102 of 112 sets for the Tigers as she missed just two matches in her third season. Tasked with setting from the front row, Whitson came up with 555 assists for an average of 5.44 per set. In addition to leading the offense, Kimmy came up with 71 kills of her own on .320 attacking while also producing 84 blocks, third most among all Tiger blockers. Despite playing just the front, Whitson stil managed to come up with 72 digs as she tallied her lone double-double of the year against Saint Mary''s on Oct. 4 when she posted 28 assists and 13 digs. Off the court, Whitson earned First Team All-Acadamic honors for her work in the classroom.
2013 (Sophomore):
In her second season, Kimmy took over the starting setter role for the Tigers and was voted the team captain prior to the start of the year. She established personal bests with 1,059 assists on the year to go along with 104 kills, 28 aces, 221 digs, and 76 blocks. She started 29 of 30 matches and finished the year with seven double-doubles. Additionally, Whitson was named the Bankers Classic MVP for her play at the Tigers'' annual tournament. Throughout the weekend, Whitson was masterful in guiding the Tigers’ offense as she posted 94 assists and 12 kills on .391 hitting. Defensively, Whitson tallied 16 digs and 11 blocks including a career-best seven against UC Riverside on Sept. 13. She earned her first First Team All-Academic team award at the conclusion of the season in her first year of eligibility.
2012 (Freshman):
Playing behind the Tigers'' senior setter for much of the season, Kimmy saw limited action in 2012 as she played in 49 sets throughout the year. The freshman started seven matches for the Tigers in her inaugural campaign, including five-straight in the beginning of the conference season as she was thrust into action against some of the best teams in the Big West due to injuries. During her time on the court, Kimmy did not disappoint as she finished the year with 280 assists, five aces, 50 digs and 37 total blocks. Additionally, Whitson proved her all-around talents against UC Santa Barbara on Oct. 13 when she picked up her first-career double-double by posting 43 assists to go along with 16 digs. She nearly finished the match with a triple-double as Kimmy added seven blocks and four kills for good measure.
High School/Club:
The orchestrator of one of the top teams in the state of California, Whitson guided her Vikings to back-to-back state titles as both a junior and senior. As a junior, Kimmy and the Vikings posted a nearly flawless record in 2010 as Palo Alto went 41-1 on the year en route to the title. A 2010 All-Santa Clara Valley Athletic League selection as a junior, Whitson averaged 10.7 assists per game while leading the team to a .311 hitting percentage. Defensively, Whitson posted 54 total blocks, second best on the team, and 167 digs, fourth best among Viking players. As a senior, Whitson led the Vikings to a 36-3 overall mark and a perfect 12-0 record in league play as they successfully defended their California state title. As a team, Whitson guided the Vikings to an impressive .412 hitting percentage while averaging just under 10 assists per game.
Personal:
Kimberly Whitson is from Palo Alto, Calif. and is the daughter of Debbie and Bruce Whitson. Her older sister, Allison, starred at UC Davis where she finished her decorated four-year career in 2012. Kimmy is a computing and applied economics major while at Pacific.
