Emily Schmit enters herfirst season with the Pacific women’s water polo program in2012 after a distinguished coaching career at the collegiate clublevel.

Schmit comes to Pacificfrom De Anza College, where she served as the head coach for boththe women’s and men’s squads. She took over theschool’s women’s program in 2008 in its first year ofcompetition. Schmit assumed head coaching duties over themen’s team a year later in its first season ofcompetition.

Prior to her stint at DeAnza College, Schmit acted as head coach of the women’s andmen’s club teams at the University of Arizona. In 2008, shecoached the women’s team to a fourth-place finish at theNational Collegiate Club Championships, improving upon thesquad’s seventh-place finish in 2007. The women’s teamalso won consecutive Southwest Conferene titles during her time onthe deck.

On the men’s side,Schmit saw both the “A” and “B” teamsfinish first and second in the Southwest Conference, a feat thathad not been done before. Schmit was recognized as the SouthwestConference Coach of the Year for the both the women and the men in2007 and the women in 2008. While at Arizona, she earned her JurisDoctorate and Master of Arts degree in Women’s Studies.

Schmit competed atIndiana University from 1998 to 1999. In her two seasons as aHoosier, she saw time in 58 matches, recording eight goals, nineassists, 22 steals, and five drawn ejections. She earned herbachelor’s degree in gender studies, history, and sociologyfrom Indiana.
