Mason Mathews was named an Assistant Director of Athletic Performance in October 2022 and promoted to Director of Athletic Performance in April 2024. He works directly with the men’s basketball, men's tennis and men’s golf programs.

Mathews comes to Pacific from Jackson State where he was the Director of Olympic Strength and Conditioning. In that position, he implemented sport appropriate training and a pregame supplementation program for performance in men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis, bowling, and cross country. He assisted in the recruiting process by presenting his training philosophy and Jackson State’s training environment.

Prior to his time at Jackson State, Mathews held an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach position at North Carolina Central for three years. He developed athletes in men’s basketball, baseball, cross country and track throwers. In addition, he was the lead assistant for football training and gameday procedures.

He also spent one year as Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at South Plains College. He oversaw strength and conditioning programs for men’s and women’s basketball and coordinated travel, recruiting, and dining for women’s basketball. He also coordinated the purchase and maintenance of training equipment.

During graduate school, he worked as a Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Dubuque. In this position, he designed training programs for softball and volleyball and assisted with the training of athletes in football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, wrestling, and men’s and women’s soccer.

Mathews received a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from MidAmerica Nazarene University in 2015. He also earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Dubuque in 2017. He has a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification in addition to a USAW Level 1 Sports Performance Coach certification.

Originally from Yukon, OK, Mathews currently resides in Stockton with his wife Caitlin, daughter Lowen, and dog Veda.
