Luke Wicks joined the Pacific men’s basketball staff as an assistant coach in April of 2016 and begins his fifth season in 2020-21. Wicks has responsibilities in areas of recruiting, academics, compliance, skill development and scouting.
Wicks has been an integral part of the men's basketball staff during his time at Pacific, helping guide Pacific to its then-highest finish in the West Coast Conference (fourth) and most league wins (nine) before leading UOP to a highly-successful 2019-20 campaign.
As the program's recruiting coordinator, Wicks helped sign and develop 2017-18 WCC Defensive Player of the Year Namdi Okonkwo, along with Second Team All-WCC selection Jahlil Tripp. Since Wicks' arrival, Pacific has had five individual All-WCC selections, including all 10 seniors graduating in the past three years.
Prior to joining the Tigers’ staff, Wicks spent six seasons at the University of San Francisco under Rex Walters. He served as Associate Head Coach for the final three seasons of his time on the Hilltop, while also acting as the program’s recruiting coordinator and defensive coach.
During his tenure with the Dons, Wicks helped sign and develop 12 All-WCC selections. Wicks helped lead USF to 104 wins and three postseason births, including an NIT appearance in 2013. In 2013-14, USF compiled its highest win total since the 1981-82 season (21) and its most conference victories (13) since the 1976-77 campaign.
Before his time at San Francisco, Wicks was the top assistant coach at Sheridan (Wyoming) Junior College from 2008-2010. Wicks was the Generals’ defensive coordinator and was in charge of individual skill development workouts, opponent scouting, recruiting the Midwest & East Coast, team travel, camps and clinics, program promotion and strength & conditioning.
In two years, he helped the Generals post an overall record of 53-14 and capture two North Sub-Region IX titles and one Wyoming Conference Title. The Generals advanced to the Region IX Final 4 twice and appeared in the 2010 championship game. Wicks also helped develop two NJCAA All-Americans, four All-Region IX selections, four All-Conference selections and one First-Team defense selection.
During his 10 plus years of coaching at Sheridan College, San Francisco, and Pacific, Wicks has helped recruit, develop and coach 26 players to professional contracts.
Wicks played collegiate basketball at Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota under the legendary Don Meyer, one of the all-time winningest coaches in NCAA history. Northern State went 101-25 with Wicks on the roster, winning two NSIC Conference Tournaments and playing in three NCAA Division II National Tournaments, including two trips to the Sweet 16. Wicks earned Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference honors as a senior and was a four-time NSIC All-Academic selection.
