Josh Newman, who previously served as associate head coach, was named interim head coach prior to the 2024 West Coast Conference Tournament. Newman has served on the men's basketball staff since 2021 and was elevated to associate head coach in Nov. 2023.
Newman has 26 years of experience as a college basketball coach. Prior to joining Pacific, he was the head coach for the Texas Permian Basin Falcons for the previous three seasons.

Prior to leading the Falcons, he spent 12 seasons as the head coach at Arkansas-Fort Smith. He helped guide the UAFS program from junior college competition to a Top 25 NCAA Division II program. Over the nine seasons at the NCAA level, his team earned four NCAA tournament invitations.

During Newman’s 15 years as a head coach, he has 277 career wins and has won seven conference championships. Â

Newman also spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Nevada, helping the Wolf Pack to three regular-season WAC championships, two WAC tournament titles and three straight NCAA tournament berths, including a run to the Sweet 16. He started his career as an assistant coach at South Plains, McLennan and Westark colleges. He has been a member of 12 conference championship teams, seven NCAA tournament appearances and two NJCAA national tournaments over his career.

Newman earned his bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University and his master’s degree from Texas A&M-Commerce.
