Chris Kjeldsen Pool at the Douglass M Eberhardt Aquatics Center

The Chris Kjeldsen Pool at the Douglass M. Eberhardt Aquatics Center is one of the finest collegiate aquatics venues in the nation. It is the home of the nationally-ranked Tiger men's and women's water polo and men's and women's swimming teams.

The Chris Kjeldsen Pool has served the University and Stockton communities for more than 50 years since it was constructed in 1973. The site of the 2019 NCAA Men's Water Polo Championship, the Aquatics Center welcomed 1,184 fans for the final contest to see the Tigers and Stanford Cardinal compete in the championship contest. The 2023 NCAA Division I Women's Water Polo Championship will be contested on the Pacific campus on May 12-14.

The most recent enhancement of the facility was completed in 2019 in advance of the men's water polo national championship, including the addition of a state-of-the-art, high-definition video board, increased spectator seating, and improved accessibility ramp from the newly constructed entrance off of Larry Heller Drive.

Kjeldsen PoolIn 2007, the pool and pool deck benefited from a $1.2 million renovation including new siding and a rim-flow gutter system that made it one of the fastest pools in the West.

The Aquatics Center building was completed in 1997 at a cost of $400,000, providing 4,000 square feet of space for coach and lifeguard offices, team locker rooms and storage. The adjacent entrance provides safer entry to the pool for physically challenged swimmers and allows for optimal access control.

The Douglass M. Eberhardt Aquatic Center is named for the late Douglass Eberhardt, a Stockton native, 1959 Pacific alumnus, and dedicated community philanthropist. He competed on the swimming and water polo teams as a student-athlete and was inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame as a member of the 1956 men's water polo team. CEO and Chair of the Bank of Stockton from 1994 until his death in 2018, Eberhardt served 12 years on the University of the Pacific Board of Regents. The university's School of Business is named for his family's generous and substantial support to the school and university. Eberhardt family members have served on the Board of Regents almost continuously since 1963, one of the longest family legacies on Pacific's governing boards.

When the new pool was completed in 1973, it was named in honor of Chris Kjeldsen, who died in 1962 at the age of 50 while serving as the head swimming coach for the Tigers. Pacific chose to recognize one of its most distinguished athletes and coaches of all time. Kjeldsen was Pacific's first All-American football player as he played under legendary coach Amos Alonzo Stagg in 1933 and 1934. He went on to work at Pacific for 28 years, coaching football, basketball, tennis, baseball, and swimming. In 1982, he was inducted as a charter member into the Pacific Athletics Hall of Fame.
