SAN JOSE, Calif. – Freshman
Xavier Cisneros scored twice, including a late equalizer, as the Pacific men's soccer team battled to a 2-2 draw against San Jose State Thursday night from Spartan Soccer Complex.
Cisneros' brace marked the second multi-goal performance by a Tiger this season and helped Pacific (1-3-2) rally twice against the Spartans (2-3-1).
Cisneros, a native of Turlock, California, finished the night with three shot attempts, all of which were on target, providing a spark for the Tigers' attack throughout the second half.
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, San Jose State struck just 20 seconds into the second half when Jordi Tortell Daly roofed a goal to give the Spartans a 1-0 advantage.
Just over seven minutes later, Cisneros leveled the match at 1-1, putting the Tigers back on even terms.
SJSU regained the lead in the 74th minute when Isac Enriquez scored a go-ahead goal. Despite trailing once again, Pacific continued to battle and refused to let the deficit end its night.
With less than four minutes remaining, Pacific was awarded a penalty kick off a hand ball in the box. Cisneros stepped to the spot, and although his initial attempt was saved by SJSU's goalkeeper Ronin Axelson, the Tigers stayed with the play. Cisneros recovered and booted it in unscathed to bring Pacific level at 2-2 and complete his second goal of the evening. It marked one of two penaly kick attempts by the Tigers on the night, which were both denied by the SJSU keeper.
Graduate student
Mateus Ruiz-Hurst played all 90 minutes in goal for Pacific and made one save in front of his hometown supporters. The native of San Jose, California aided the Tigers in withstanding SJSU's offensive pressure and securing the draw in his third start in goal this year.
Pacific's two-goal performance from the foot of Cisneros continued a productive stretch. The Tigers now having scored multiple goals by one Tiger in two of their first six matches of the 2026 season. Sophomore
Josephat Yangyuoru also notched a brace in a 3-3 draw against UC Davis during the home opener.
The draw also gave Pacific another hard-earned result on the road as the Tigers return home with something to build upon. Pacific returns to action looking to build on the performance and carry the momentum from Cisneros' two-goal night into its next contest, which will take place two days from tonight on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Knoles Field against Cal State Northridge.
