Tigers Torch Toreros with Season-High 18 Runs

STOCKTON, Calif. – Scoring a season-high 18 runs, the Pacific baseball program cruised to an 18-6 victory over San Diego in seven innings on Saturday afternoon from Klein Family Field.

The Tigers (22-26, 14-9 WCC) captured their fifth consecutive West Coast Conference series after defeating the Toreros (17-30, 9-14 WCC) in run-rule fashion, marking the most WCC series Pacific has won in a single season in program history.

The foot never left off the gas pedal for the Pacific offense, blistering a season-high 20 hits, including a season-best ten extra-base hits. Ignited by redshirt sophomore JT Shank's first career four-run and four-RBI performance, the Tigers scored seven runs in the second inning – the most in a single inning all season – ultimately opening the floodgates for the most runs Pacific has ever scored against a WCC foe since joining the league in 2014.

Six Tigers in the starting lineup recorded two hits or more, including four-hit outings for Shank, senior Jake Tandy and junior Braeden Schnabel.

Tandy and Shank each walloped two-run home runs on the afternoon. Tandy's two-run blast for his fifth big fly of the conference play capped the seven-run frame in the bottom of the second inning. All four of Shank's hits were of the extra-base variety, including his second home run of the season and first one since March 22 against Seattle. Tandy ties his junior campaign total of five home runs while Shank sets a new career best with a pair this season.

After graduate student Adan Perez pitched 4.0 innings, redshirt freshman Liam Smith (2-5) was credited with his second win of the season and first of WCC action. Smith went 1.2 innings and followed by graduate student Ethan Shaver's 1.1 innings to seal the deal.

Despite falling behind 2-0 early in the first, Pacific rattled off the next ten runs and continue to pile on the support, culminating to the Tigers taking their first series over the Toreros since April of 2014.

Pacific remains tied for second in the WCC standings with Pepperdine after Saturday's results around the league.

The Tigers are now one win away from sweeping the Toreros and tying the most WCC wins they have had in a season (2014). First pitch for Senior Day is scheduled for 1 p.m. from Klein Family Field. A pregame ceremony will take place approximately at 12:40 p.m. to honor the graduating senior class.
