Tigers Drop Regular Season Finale, Lock No. 2 Seed for WCC Tournament

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Pacific baseball program dropped its regular season finale to Portland by a 9-5 margin on Saturday afternoon from Joe Etzel Field.

The Tigers (23-28-1, 15-11-1 WCC) got another quality start from redshirt junior Garret Plata, but the Pilots (27-25, 13-14 WCC) rallied late to take the rubber match and series on their Senior Day.

Looking around the West Coast Conference standings, with Pepperdine losing to Santa Clara and San Francisco falling to Saint Mary's, the Tigers have locked up the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye for the West Coast Conference Tournament.

Plata's final start of the regular season presented 6.0 innings, allowing three runs on six hits with five strikeouts. Plata's final regular season earned run average is 2.28 in 71.0 innings, which sits atop the WCC leaderboard.

Senior Jake Tandy extended his hitting streak to a season-best 15 games. Tandy drove in his 45th RBI of the season. Tandy is now two RBIs away from tying Jason Vorhauer (1998) for the tenth most RBIs in a single season in program history.

Senior Grant MacArthur crushed a two-run home run for his fifth home run of the season, tying Tandy for the second-most in that category. MacArthur's blast tied the game in the top of the third after Portland scored the game's first two runs in the second inning. The Pilots utilized a four-run seventh inning to take a 7-4 lead and never looked back.

With the regular season in the books and the first WCC tournament berth in program history on deck, the Tigers will await their first opponent of the West Coast Conference Tournament in Scottsdale Stadium at Scottsdale, Arizona from May 20-23. Pacific's first game will be Thursday, May 21st at 7 p.m. against the second lowest advancing team from the first round. All information about the West Coast Conference Tournament can be found here
