PORTLAND, Ore. – In the longest contest of the season for the Tigers, the Pacific baseball program came up on the wrong side of a 3-2 decision in 12 innings on Friday from Joe Etzel Field.
The Tigers (23-27-1, 15-10-1 WCC) and the Pilots (26-25, 12-14 WCC) battled in a pitcher's duel for most of the night with graduate student
Adan Perez posting a career-high nine strikeouts in his quality start on the mound.
Pacific carried a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the ninth, but Portland was able to tie the score up with a sacrifice fly and scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the 12th inning to even up the series.
Despite a rain delay in the first inning, Perez pitched around an early jam and cruised for a season-high 7.0 innings, allowing just one run on four hits. The quality start marked his second one of the season and first since April 18 against Santa Clara at home.
Graduate student
Brendan O'Sullivan collected his 20th multi-hit performance of the season and scored a game-tying run as part of the Tigers' two-run rally in the sixth inning. Senior
Jake Tandy knocked in Sullivan for his 44th RBI of the year while also extending his hit streak to 14 games with a pair of singles tonight.
Senior
Grant MacArthur gave Pacific a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly that brought home redshirt sophomore
JT Shank.
Despite the narrow defeat, Pacific remains in the number two spot in the West Coast Conference standings with a half game lead over Pepperdine and San Francisco.
The rubber match between Pacific and Portland will conclude the regular season with a first pitch slated tomorrow at 1 p.m. from Joe Etzel Field.
