STANFORD, Calif. – Senior
Allie Capello got Pacific out in front with a two-run triple, but the team could not hold 15th-ranked Stanford at bay long enough and took a 4-2 defeat Wednesday afternoon at Stanford Softball Stadium.
Capello's triple came with two-outs in the third inning and is her second three-bagger in the last five games. Up 2-0, it was Pacific's (16-33, 4-11 WCC) first lead against Stanford (35-12, 18-6 ACC) since 2019. It was a lead Tigers junior starting pitcher
Justice Alcaraz was able to hold until the fourth inning when a three-run homer put the Cardinal up for good. With the loss, Alcaraz dropped to 4-10 this season and posted a final ledger of 3.1 innings pitched, five hits, three runs (all earned), one walk and four strikeouts. Her four punchouts tie for her career-high, last done in 2025 against San Jose State at home.
Despite the loss, the Pacific pitching staff did a good job working through traffic as they forced Stanford to strand nine runners on base, highlighted by escaping a bases loaded jam in the fifth inning after conceding only one run. Sophomore
Alexa Lewis and freshman
Carley Mulcahey combined to throw 2.2 innings of one-hit softball, which was charged to the latter. However, the one hit was stranded and the freshman through the remainder of the inning without incident. Lewis meanwhile was charged with one-run after conceding four walks during her 1.2 innings in the circle, she also struck out two.
Elsewhere on the diamond, senior
Jordan Hayes logged a two-hit afternoon, her seventh of the season. Included in those two hits was her ninth double of the year. Redshirt senior
Olivia Silvestre reached twice, split between a single and a walk.
The Tigers will look to rebound when the San Diego Toreros come to Bill Simoni Field on Friday for the start of a three-game series. First pitch is at 6 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
