LOS ANGELES – The Pacific softball pitching staff had a rough Friday night, conceding 16 hits in a 13-3 loss in six innings against LMU at Smith Field.
The game started as a back-and-forth affair, where LMU (28-15, 6-4 WCC) jumped out an early lead, only for the Tigers (16-30, 4-9 WCC) to claw back and take a brief lead. Pacific used a discerning eye in the second inning to draw three walks, the last of those three walks to bring in the first of the team's three runs. Sophomore
Peyton Clifford then singled home a run. A final Tigers run crossed the plate in the fourth inning courtesy of a productive out from junior
Zaedi Tagalog.
Despite the three-runs on the night, Pacific was successful applying consistent pressure on the Lions – drawing five walks in addition to the five hits. Freshman
Kelly Whelihan fared the best on the team, reaching three times (twice via the walk and one double).
Defensively, sophomores
Kaytee Dahlstrom and
Alexa Lewis were tagged for six and seven runs respectively, though only four Lewis' seven were earned. The latter pitcher was credited with the loss and drops to 5-7 on the season. She finished with a line of 2.2 innings pitched, eight hits, seven runs (four earned), one walk and one strikeout. Dahlstrom in the starter position lasted 2.2 innings giving up six runs on six hits, two walks and one strikeout. Freshman
Sophia Lambaren appeared for 0.1 innings giving up two hits.
The team returns to the diamond on Saturday at 4 p.m. needing both remaining games to clinch the first series win over LMU since 2017 and the first in Los Angeles since 2014. Saturday's game will be streamed on ESPN+.
