STOCKTON, Calif. – Redshirt junior
Garret Plata marveled on the mound, securing a series sweep for the Pacific baseball program with a 7-1 victory over Santa Clara on Sunday afternoon from Klein Family Field.
The sure-handed southpaw threw six shutout frames to guide the Tigers (15-23, 7-8 WCC) collected their first West Coast Conference series sweep of the 2026 campaign in pristine fashion over the Broncos (14-24, 3-12 WCC). It marks the first time the Tigers have swept a WCC opponent under head coach
Reed Peters and the first time since 2022 against Saint Mary's.
The final line for Plata (3-2) in his third consecutive quality start was 6.0 innings, two hits, no runs, one walk and six strikeouts, lowering his earned run average to 1.71 on the season, which sits atop the conference leaderboard. Plata has yet to allow more than two earned runs in a single start this season as he racked up 51 strikeouts, second-most on the Tigers behind redshirt junior
Zach Todd (52).
The trio of Plata, Todd and graduate student
Adan Perez were lights out all week, combining for three quality starts, 18 innings pitched, four earned runs and 17 strikeouts in the sweep of the Broncos.
The starting pitching on Sunday was backed by early offense as junior
Braeden Schnabel's first career four-hit day got the scoring party going. Schnabel recorded three doubles, two runs and a game-opening RBI in the bottom of the first. His three doubles were the most in a single game by a Tiger since
Drake Bicknell on April 15, 2025, against Cal State Bakersfield.
Senior
Jake Tandy found his stride with a multi-hit performance, including his second straight week of hitting a home run. His solo home run in the bottom of the seventh was his second of the year as icing on the cake during a two-run rally after stretch time in Stockton.
One of key offensive moments for the Tigers came from redshirt sophomore
Robert Orr, who laced a two-RBI single up the middle, allowing the fourth and fifth Pacific runs of the game to score for a 5-0 lead after five. Orr finished the game going 2-for-4 with three RBIs, raising his team-best batting average to a .308 clip.
Relieving Plata following six scoreless frames, freshman
Connor Raridan picked up his first career save, pitching the final three innings and allowing one earned run with four strikeouts, which was the most in an outing by Raridan against a WCC opponent this year.
Pacific look to remain hot at home for its next contest with a midweek match-up next on the docket against San Jose State at 6 p.m. from Klein Family Field.
