Pitching Duel Leads to Late Game Heroics on Fireworks Night

STOCKTON, Calif. – A pitcher's duel on Friday night turned into a 3-1 victory for the Pacific baseball program in the series opener against Santa Clara at Klein Family Field.

The Tigers (13-23, 5-8 WCC) found a late spark from senior Rylan Evans to aid a gem by redshirt junior Zach Todd on the mound to take game one of the West Coast Conference series from the Broncos (14-22, 3-10 WCC).

Evans crushed his second home run in as many games, giving Pacific a 2-1 lead in the seventh inning that proved to carry the home team to victory.

Todd tied his career-long with six innings pitched and earned second quality start of the season. Todd collected five strikeouts in the first two innings and ended the evening with six strikeouts – the second-most for the right-handed pitcher in a WCC game this season. Junior Regan Carter (2-3) earned the win for his second one of the 2026 campaign. Redshirt junior Carson Revay picked up his team-leading sixth save of the season.

Max Bayles, the conference leader in strikeouts entering the night, pitched six strong before giving up the go-ahead blast to Evans in the seventh inning.

Following the 2-1 takeover by the Tigers in the home half of the seventh, the Broncos threatened next frame, getting on first and third with no outs. Revay was summoned from the bullpen and delivered with a strikeout and inning-ending double play to escape the jam.

The Tigers tacked on an insurance run in the eighth inning, utilizing a hit-and-run and scoring later on a wild pitch to cushion their edge to 3-1.

Revay closed the door with a clean ninth inning, sending positive vibes all around the ballpark ahead of the Fireworks Night festivities.

Pacific and Santa Clara continue the three-game series tomorrow afternoon with a 3 p.m. first pitch slated from Klein Family Field.
