Ninth-Inning Surge Seals Series Victory in Malibu

MALIBU, Calif. – The bats came alive late for the Pacific baseball program, utilizing a key four-run ninth-inning rally to add on and down Pepperdine, 9-4, on Sunday afternoon from Eddy D. Field Stadium.

The Tigers (12-22, 4-8 WCC) were sparked by junior Derek Bartram's first career four-hit, three-RBI day at the dish, propelling the Pacific offense past the Waves (11-24, 6-6 WCC) in the rubber match.

Bartram's bat paid dividends in manufacturing rallies for the Tigers all afternoon, raising his season batting average to .260 and RBI count to 11 in the process. Bartram opened up a second-inning rally with a single and scored on senior Rylan Evans' double.

In the sixth inning, Bartram gave Pacific the 4-3 lead with a sacrifice fly, keeping redshirt junior and starter Garret Plata in line for his second win of the season. Plata was sharp in his second consecutive quality start in conference play, posting 6.0 innings and allowing three runs (two unearned) while striking out eight Wave batters – the most in a league game this season by a Tiger starter. Plata's earned run average stands at 1.96, which serves as the WCC qualified ERA leader after Sunday's results.

Bartram was not done doing damage, keeping a rally going in the eighth inning as Diego Davis brought home an insurance run to make the score, 5-3, in favor of Pacific. The 6-foot-2 right fielder would complete his heroic performance at the plate, capping a four-run ninth inning outburst with a two-run single to right field that ultimately secured the 9-4 victory.

Redshirt junior Carson Revay kept his composure and escaped a key eighth inning jam with a double play en route to notching his team-leading fifth save of the season. Revay is just two saves shy of tying for the fourth-most saves in a single season in program history. Josh Schmidt has the most in that category at 11 saves in 2005.

With Sunday's win, the Tigers claimed their first conference series victory of the 2026 campaign and fifth WCC series under head coach Reed Peters. It's the first time the Tigers took a series from the Waves on the road since 2014. Pacific has won four of its last six contests against Pepperdine.

Up next, the Tigers complete their eight-game road trip with a Tuesday tilt against UC Davis from Phil Swimley Field at Dobbins Stadium. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. The Tigers will return home on Friday, April 17 at 6 p.m. for Fireworks Night against Santa Clara from Klein Family Field.
