Softball Edged Out in Extra Innings

STOCKTON, Calif. – Sophomore Peyton Clifford was able to knock home a run in the seventh inning to force extras, but Pacific couldn't complete the rally and fell 5-3 to Utah Valley in the series finale in ten innings on Sunday at Bill Simoni Field.

Clifford's game-tying double came with two outs in the seventh after a missed diving catch attempt from Utah Valley (14-8), her first extra base hit since opening day. Before knocking in a run, she was part of a sequence that got Pacific (8-16) an early lead.

In the third inning she was hit by a pitch, allowing redshirt senior Olivia Silvestre to bring her home a batter later after hitting a double over the head of the right fielder. The double was the 12th of her season, tying her for the national lead, and remains the only student-athlete in the WCC with ten or more doubles this season.

Within Pacific's history, she drew closer to cracking the single season list for a second straight season – which if she can reach 14 doubles will become the third Tiger in program history to accomplish this feat multiple times, joining Barbara Moody and Nikki Armagost. Currently she is projected to finish with 30 homeruns – a mark that would set the new single season record.

Junior Zaedi Tagalog tallied the other Tigers RBI, bringing Silvestre home to score in the third inning as well. Tagalog was Pacific's most prolific hitter of the week, going 6-for-15 with five RBIs and a double.

In the circle, sophomore Kaytee Dahlstrom was charged with a tough luck loss. Appearing in relief, she allowed only two runs (one earned) in 6.2 innings pitched. The sophomore was effective at working through traffic as she allowed seven hits on the afternoon and struck out four with no walks.

The starter was junior Justice Alcaraz who gave up three runs in 3.1 innings pitched. She also walked one and struck out one.

Pacific plays host once again in the next contest, bringing California to Bill Simoni Field on Tuesday for mid-week action. The last time the Tigers hosted Cal was in 2021 and a win would be the first in the series since 2011. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
