Alexa Lewis Dazzles in Circle in Split with Utah Valley

STOCKTON, Calif. – In game two of Saturday's doubleheader, sophomore pitcher Alexa Lewis punched out nine Utah Valley batters on her way to a complete game win, 5-2, over the Wolverines and avenged a 7-0 loss in game one at Bill Simoni Field.

GAME 2
The nine strikeouts Lewis accumulated represents a new career high for the sophomore and was never seriously threatened throughout much of the game. Save for a UVU (13-8) homerun in the fourth inning, the Wolverines were not able to advance a runner beyond first base until the seventh inning. A second run would come home with two outs, but the following batter grounded out to end the contest. Outside of those two slips, Lewis was able to scatter the four hits allowed and two walks to avoid potential rallies. The win was her fourth of the season, already doubling her win total from last season. She was also able to drop her season ERA down to 2.79.

Pacific's (8-15) offensive hero of the contest was junior Zaedi Tagalog, who turned two hits into three RBIs. Her first hit was a double in the third inning that brought home the game's first two runs and then her second extended Pacific's lead in the fourth inning. Over the past ten games, Tagalog has posted multi-hit efforts in four of them.

The remaining two RBIs also came from two of the team newcomers as freshman Kelly Whelihan scored Tagalog off an RBI single to round out a three-run third inning. Sophomore Katelyn Maciel brought home a run in the fifth inning that capped the Tigers offensive attack.

Senior Amanda Bricker notched another two hits in the contest. Since the Libby Matson Tournament, she's hitting .364 at the plate with five extra base hits (three homeruns, two doubles) and has risen her season batting average over 100 points.

GAME 1
The Tigers offense was kept at bay, limited to two hits and a single walk. By contrast, Utah Valley was able to apply consistent pressure to the pitching staff, scoring in five of the seven innings. Junior Ariel Nava was charged with the loss, she drops to 1-4, she spun two innings giving up two runs on four hits and a strikeout. Freshman Jaelyn Lee appeared in relief, lasting four innings and gave up four runs on six hits and three walks. Finally, fellow freshman Carley Mulcahey navigated the final two frames and gave up a single run on one hit, one walk and one strikeout.
