Early Offense Not Enough in Series-Opening Loss at Nevada

RENO, Nev. – The Pacific baseball program continued to swing a hot bat on a cold night in the Silver State but ultimately came up short in a 11-7 defeat to Nevada on Friday evening from Don Weir Field at Peccole Park.

The Tigers (6-7) drop the series opener to the Wolf Pack (6-5) despite scoring the game's first three runs and held onto a lead until the late stages of the ball game.

Offensively, the bats were rolling early as Pacific dropped a three-run spot in the top of the first and another three in the second to jump ahead, 6-4. Senior Jake Tandy had another key performance at the plate, slashing a two-RBI double during the second-inning rally. Redshirt sophomore Robert Orr could not be retired by the Wolf Pack on Friday, going 3-for-3 with a run scored.

Redshirt junior Zach Todd made his fourth appearance of the season and third straight Friday night as the opener, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing four earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts. Redshirt junior Carson Revay was effective in relief, going 2.0 innings with three punch-outs to his name.

The Tigers carried a 7-4 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning, when Nevada chipped back into the picture, scoring twice to make it a 7-6 ball game. A five-run bottom of the eighth proved to be the difference maker as the home team went on to take game one of the series.

Game two of the series features the Tigers and the Wolf Pack tomorrow at 2:05 p.m. from Peccole Park with viewing availability on the Mountain West Network.
