STOCKTON, Calif. – Behind a fifth-inning meltdown, the Pacific baseball program dropped the second game of the series by a 12-5 decision on Saturday afternoon at Klein Family Field.
The Tigers (9-17, 1-4 WCC) kept it close early on, but the Bulldogs (12-12, 4-1 WCC) came to life offensively with a six-run fifth inning.
Redshirt junior
Colin Spear lifted his first career home run as a Tiger that tied the game in the third inning. Freshman
Peyton Richards also launched a home run, his second of the season during the eighth inning that put Pacific within striking distance.
Graduate student
Brendan O'Sullivan registered another multi-hit game from the lead-off spot with an RBI.
Redshirt junior
Zach Todd got roughed up in his second start of conference play, giving up earned eight runs on 4.2 innings of work. Graduate student
Ethan Shaver kept the Bulldogs at bay in his outing, going 3.1 innings of one-run ball.
Gonzaga utilized the long ball once again to fuel their offense, including a three-run home run by Mikey Bell during the six-run fifth inning, looming large in the loss. The Tigers looked to rally late, scoring twice in the seventh and eighth innings, but came up short and fell, 12-5.
Pacific and Gonzaga will compete in the final game of the series tomorrow with a 1 p.m. first pitch from Klein Family Field.
