Allie Capello’s Hot Streak Continues, but Softball Drops Game Two

MORAGA, Calif. – Senior Allie Capello hit a three-run homer to buoy the Pacific offense, but the team could not build enough on that performance and fell 6-4 in game two of the series against Saint Mary's on Saturday afternoon at Cottrell Field.

Her big fly in the third inning extended her hitting streak to now six consecutive games and ten of the last 11 outings that she's notched at least one hit. During Capello's run of strong offensive performances, the senior has raised her batting average 49 points to lead the team with a .355 average. The three RBIs she drove in this afternoon also extended her team lead in the department to 25 runs batted in this season. Her two-hit performance was her 11th such instance this season.

Elsewhere at the plate, redshirt senior Olivia Silvestre was hit by her 14th pitch this season, moving her one closer to tying the single season record of 20 hit by pitches, set 2011 by Nicole Matson.

Sophomore Jayleen Scott tallied the Tigers (12-22, 0-2 WCC) fourth run of the game with a single in the third inning that scored Capello.

Despite a strong performance in relief, freshman Carley Mulcahey took the loss in the circle, falling to 1-2. Pacific's third pitcher of the afternoon, she threw two innings and gave up two runs, only one earned, on six hits and a walk. Junior Justice Alcaraz got the start and went 3.1 innings giving up four runs on seven hits, and two walks.

Fellow freshman Sophia Lambaren spun two scoreless outs in between Alcaraz and Mulcahey, inducing two fly outs.

Pacific can still steal game three tomorrow at noon. Last season, the Tigers excelled at game three, going 5-2 in the final game of a three-game series. Sunday's game will be streamed on ESPN+.
