MORAGA, Calif. – Pacific's offense cooled off Friday afternoon, resulting in a 9-1 defeat to Saint Mary's in six innings at Cottrell Field.
Redshirt senior
Olivia Silvestre's triple in the third inning highlighted a two-hit afternoon for the program, which ties for the season low at the plate. The Tigers (12-21, 0-1 WCC) did capitalize on an early Saint Mary's (22-10, 1-0 WCC) error to score a run in the first inning. Junior
Zaedi Tagalog worked a walk and then the SMC miscue allowed her to come around to score from second base.
Beyond that, Pacific was able to reach base via a second walk from Tagalog, a walk from junior
Kaylah Adams and a freshman
Kelly Whelihan hit-by-pitch.
In the field the team had an uncharacteristic day committing three errors, tying for the most in a single game this season.
Sophomore
Alexa Lewis was credited with the loss, dropping her record to 5-5 this season. The sophomore righty worked the first 4.2 innings and gave up five runs, only three earned, on six runs and three walks – she also struck out three. Fellow sophomore
Kaytee Dahlstrom appeared in relief and spun 0.2 innings of work, giving up four runs, three earned, on four hits before Saint Mary's ended the contest.
The team will have two opportunities to rebound and still claim the series, the first of which comes Saturday at 1 p.m. and then Sunday at noon. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
