STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball program dropped the series opener to Gonzaga, 7-6, on Friday evening from Klein Family Field.
The Tigers (9-16, 1-3 WCC) surrendered four solo home runs on the night that proved to be the difference for the Bulldogs (11-12, 3-1 WCC), including a go-ahead home run in the top of the ninth that gave the visitors game one.
Junior
Levi Sotomayor was a bright spot for the Pacific offense, sparking his first career three-hit game along with a team-high three RBIs. Redshirt sophomore
Robert Orr also notched another multi-hit performance, his team-leading ninth occurrence on the year.
Graduate student
Adan Perez made his first start of the season on the mound and struck out three Bulldogs while giving up two runs in the first three innings.
Carson Revay (3-2) was handed the loss.
Ryder Young was thorn in the side of Pacific pitching, hitting a pair of home runs on his 3-for-5 outing. Jacob Wrubleski crushed the go-ahead home run with two outs in the ninth that guided Gonzaga to the result.
The Bulldogs struck first with a pair in the top of the second, but Pacific countered with a four-run spot to take a 4-2 lead after two.
The middle innings plagued the Tigers as they gave up a run in each frame from the fourth to the seventh, putting the Bulldogs in front, 6-4.
The bottom of the eighth saw Pacific rally to even up the score at 6-6, thanks to a big hit from Sotomayor and a game-tying sacrifice fly by graduate student
Brendan O'Sullivan.
Gonzaga ultimately got the go-ahead run with the long ball in the ninth and escaped a Tiger rally late to seal a 7-6 result.
Game two of the series will be played tomorrow with a first pitch at 3 p.m. from Klein Family Field.
