MISSOULA, Mont. – Senior
Allie Capello became the third Tiger in program history with six RBIs in a single game, the fourth Tiger with four runs scored in a single game and the fifth Tiger with three doubles in a game to lead the team to a 13-12 shootout win over Montana on Sunday morning, securing the three-game series sweep.
Capello's offensive explosion came at the end of loud at bats as all four of her hits resulted in extra base hits (three doubles and a three-run homerun). Not since Megan Fogelsong in 2011 had a Tiger achieved this milestone, and Capello's third double proved pivotal as it was part of a three-run seventh inning – enough for Pacific (12-20) to weather a two-run Montana (5-22) bottom of the seventh.
That seventh inning at-bat also brought across her sixth RBI, tying her with Megan Allen (2010) and Gina Carbonatto (2007) as the only Tigers to accomplish this feat. Her four-hit morning also signified the 44th occurrence in program history, the only active Tiger with this distinction and one hit away from tying her third single-game program record.
More than a run producer, the senior outfielder came around four times to double as a run scorer. The four runs she scored are the second time this decade a Tiger has done this (
Rian Dirmeyer in 2022) and joins Sara Anderson (2015) and Paige Emerson (2009) in this illustrious group.
Capello was far from the only impactful student-athlete at the plate during the contest, however. Junior
Kaylah Adams drew the start at first base and delivered two hits and three RBIs. Two of those runs batted in came off her second homerun of the season, but her most impactful came in the seventh inning when she singled home Capello to plate the decisive 13th run.
Redshirt senior
Olivia Silvestre left a mark on the contest – both as a hitter and baserunner. At the dish she reached base twice via the hit by pitch, her 12th and 13th of the season. Silvestre continues to climb the single season record book – moving into fourth place and trails only Nicole Matson (2008,11,12) for the most hit Tiger in a single season. Nationally, she ranks in the top-15 for hit by pitches this season and trails the national leader by four.
In her career, she sits at 23 hit-by-pitches, ranking her sixth in program history.
As a baserunner, Silvestre came around three times to score – the 66th time in history that has been done, and her second.
Team wide, the double was an integral part of the offense – tallying six, which is the third most single game in program history and one away from trying the program record. Outside of Capello, senior
Jordan Hayes, sophomore
Peyton Clifford and freshman
Kelly Whelihan each logged one.
In the circle, the win was credited to freshman
Carley Mulcahey – her first collegiate win. She worked the final 3.2 innings and gave up two runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk, she struck out three.
Pacific remains on the road for the next series, traveling to Moraga, California to take on Saint Mary's in the West Coast Conference opener. Last season the Tigers dropped two of three to SMC.
