STOCKTON, Calif. – With a six-run rally in the eighth inning of a summer-like ball game, the Pacific baseball program roared to life in its West Coast Conference opener with a 6-4 victory over Seattle on Friday night from Klein Family Field.
In the first all-time conference meeting between the two programs, the Tigers (9-12, 1-0 WCC) surged late offensively to secure the first conference win of the season in large part thanks to graduate student
Brendan O'Sullivan's heroics.
O'Sullivan led off the eighth-inning rally with a double down the right field line to awaken the offense and put the finishing touches on the six-run burst with a two-run single to give Pacific its first lead of the night that never diminished.
The pitching performances of redshirt junior
Zach Todd and
Carson Revay were crisp on a hot night at the yard. Todd notched an eight-strikeout outing in 5.0 innings of his first conference start and fifth overall, while Revay (3-0) kept his composure to limit Seattle's damage and hang on for the win. For Todd, his eight strikeouts were the second most of a start this season.
After five scoreless frames, Seattle (3-14, 0-1 WCC) struck first in the sixth on a wild pitch and later extended its lead to 4-0. Pacific then sent 11 hitters to the plate in the eighth inning, scoring six times to jump out on top, 6-4. Despite a game-tying run at the plate for the Redhawks with two outs, Revay slammed the door with a strikeout to grant the Tigers the opening win of the series.
Pacific and Seattle will go back to action in game two of the series tomorrow with a 3 p.m. first pitch from Klein Family Field.
