Big Sixth Inning Not Enough for Softball in Loss to Northern Colorado

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific softball team pushed four runs across in the sixth inning and got the winning run to the plate an inning later, but could not complete the rally and fell 5-4 to Northern Colorado in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Bill Simoni Field.

Junior Zaedi Tagalog keyed the rally in the sixth with a leadoff triple down the first base line, her third of the weekend. If she can tally one more triple, she will enter the single season record book for triples – the first since Rian Dirmeyer in 2021 and just the fifth Tiger (9-19) this century to hit four or more triples in a single season.

After Tagalog's triple, four of the next five Tigers reached base with senior Allie Capello scoring her teammate on a forced error while junior Kaylah Adams and senior Jordan Hayes brought runners around to score the traditional way, notching a single and double respectively.

Fellow senior Amanda Bricker scored sophomore Jayleen Scott with a sacrifice fly to make the score 5-4, where the game would remain.
In the seventh, freshman Kelly Whelihan reached with a two-out single, but a fly out extinguished the chance at extending the game.

Redshirt senior Olivia Silvestre was hit by her tenth pitch this season. In doing so, she became the third Tiger in program history to get hit by ten or more pitches multiple times in her career and the first since Madison Kahwaty in 2019 and 2021.

Freshman Sophia Lambaren took the first loss of her career, starting in the circle for Pacific. Over the first 2.2 innings, she gave up two runs on four hits, no walks and struck out three. In relief, sophomore Kaytee Dahlstrom gave up three runs in 1.2 innings pitched and then freshman Carley Mulcahey worked a scoreless final 2.2 innings giving up a single hit and struck out three.

Pacific remains at home for one more game on Tuesday against Nevada at 3 p.m. before going to Montana for a three-game series in Missoula on Saturday and Sunday. All four games are set to be streamed on ESPN+.
