STOCKTON, Calif. – Sophomore
Kaytee Dahlstrom entered game one in the seventh with bases loaded and no outs and proceeded to strike out three straight to win 4-3, but Pacific could not complete the sweep and fell 3-1 in game two of Saturday's doubleheader against Northern Colorado at Bill Simoni Field.
GAME 1
Four straight Bears (13-15) had reached base when the sophomore entered the circle and she was extremely efficient setting down UNCO, needing only 14 pitches to record the save – her third of the season. With the save, Dahlstrom entered Pacific's (9-18) record book for single season saves, ranking sixth in program history and the first entry since Myka Sutherlin in 2021. She needs four more to tie the single season record, set by Tori Shepard in 2012.
Through her heroics in the mound, junior Justic Alcaraz was able to record her fourth win of the season, tying her for the team lead. Prior to the seventh inning, she had cruised through the second-sixth innings, only ever allowing a max of two runners to reach at a time. Her final line read six innings pitched, seven hits allowed, three runs (all earned), five walks and two strikeouts.
The Tigers offense was largely carried by junior
Zaedi Tagalog's two triples that netted her two RBIs. Her performance in game one tied the school record for most triples in a single game – marking just the third time in program history it has been accomplished and the first time since
Rian Dirmeyer in 2021.
Freshman
Kelly Whelihan was also a leading cause behind the Tigers offense – first hitting an RBI single in the first inning to answer two Northern Colorado runs and then later capitalizing on a UNCO wild pitch to score a run.
The remaining highlights of the Pacific offense included sophomore
Peyton Clifford's third double of the season and redshirt senior
Olivia Silvestre reaching base twice, raising her on-base percentage to .468, the fourth best mark in the conference.
GAME 2
The Tigers again received a strong pitching performance, but were done in by much quieter bats. Sophomore
Alexa Lewis was tagged with the loss despite lasting 6.1 innings and giving up only three runs on nine hits – she also struck out seven. Freshman
Carley Mulcahey worked the final two outs without incident.
Senior
Allie Capello delivered two of the four Pacific hits in the second half of the doubleheader, highlighted by a double. Silvestre and Clifford rounded out the Tigers who reached via a base hit. The pair also recorded a stolen base each.
UP NEXT
One game remains in the series against Northern Colorado on Sunday at noon before hosting Nevada on Tuesday to round out the Tigers homestand. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
