Pacific Survives Late Push by Sacramento State in 7-6 Win

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific baseball program held on for a 7-6 victory over Sacramento State on Saturday afternoon from Klein Family Field.

The Tigers (8-10) pick up their second straight win in the series over the Hornets (6-13) and have taken three of the last four meetings between the two programs.

Small ball and timely pitching proved to be effective for Pacific as redshirt junior Garret Plata dealt 5.0 strong innings for his first win of the 2026 campaign. Plata gave up just one run in his start with three strikeouts. Graduate student Ethan Shaver closed the door on the 7-6 win with his first save of the year, striking out the last hitter to end the contest.

Offensively, the Tigers were fueled by junior Alex Dolan and senior Jake Tandy, who notched a pair of hits and an RBI each. Senior Grant MacArthur also registered an RBI single that proved to be the game-winner in the seventh inning and scored a run earlier on.

Pacific started the offense in the bottom of the third, thanks to Dolan's RBI double. Sacramento State tied it up before the Tigers responded with a two-run spot in the fourth frame.

The pressure mounted for the Tigers' defense, but their cooler heads prevailed, maintaining a one-run lead into the bottom of the sixth where Pacific added an insurance run on a wild pitch. The next inning, a three-run spot by the Tigers made it a 7-2 ball game in favor of the home team.

The Hornets would not go away quietly as the visitors hit a three-run homer in the eighth, followed by one more in the ninth. Shaver would get the job done, despite the push by the Hornets, and that is how the ball game ended, 7-6.

The series finale will take place tomorrow against the Hornets with a first pitch slated for 1 p.m. from Klein Family Field.
