STOCKTON, Calif. – Having won six of its last seven matches, the No. 21 Pacific women's water polo program will look to keep rolling Saturday when it hosts No. 7 LMU at 11 a.m. at the Eberhardt Aquatics Center.
Â
It will be a stiff test for the Tigers (9-6, 1-1 GCC) as the Lions (16-3, 2-0 GCC) sit in first-place and are the highest ranked team from the Golden Coast Conference. Pacific will look to beat a top-10 team for the first time since Jan. 28, 2023 when it knocked off No. 6 UC Irvine 12-11 at a neutral site in Riverside, California.
Â
Nevertheless, Pacific is coming off back-to-back wins over higher ranked opponents last week. It took down No. 14 UC Davis 8-7 at home before going on the road to pull out a 15-14 overtime thriller over No. 17 San Jose State.
Â
Junior
Laia Marsinach Ortega is the reigning Golden Coast Conference Player of the Week winner. She totaled eight goals and four assists over the two games last week including a whopping six goals against SJSU. She's up to a team-high 35 goals on the season.
Â
Freshman
Maria Ikonomou is second on the team in scoring with 26 goals, while junior
Ella Cowan, freshman
Eleni Ikonomou and freshman
Sophie Pethers have netted 19 goals apiece. Cowan has dished out a team-high 25 assists.
Â
In net, the Tigers have flipped back-and-forth between junior
Maja Lizy Dulic and sophomore
Laurel Cooper. Dulic has started the last five games after earning All-Conference Honorable Mention accolades in each of the last two seasons.
Â
LMU has won conference games over San Diego State 13-8 and Fresno State 12-9. The Lions have won 18 straight GCC games dating back to 2023 and won both the regular season and tournament title last year.
Â
Pacific is 16-13 all-time against LMU and 5-3 at home.
Â
It will be the first of a three-game homestand for the Tigers who next host No. 23 Cal Baptist at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 22. Senior Day is slated for Thursday, March 26 at 5 p.m. against Santa Clara.
