Pacific Rides Waves to Margin of Victory Record

MALIBU, Calif. – In its largest margin of victory in a West Coast Conference game since rejoining the league in 2013-14, the Pacific men's basketball program crushed Pepperdine 92-59 to complete the season sweep Saturday at Firestone Fieldhouse.

The 33-point win surpassed Pacific's (16-10, 7-6 WCC) 84-53 victory over Oregon State earlier this season. The last time the Tigers won a conference road game by 33 was Jan. 22, 2011 when they beat UC Davis 87-54 on the road as a member of the Big West.

The Tigers led by 16 at the half and their lead never dipped below 14 in the second half. Pacific ended the game on a 20-4 run in the last five minutes.

Senior TJ Wainwright, from Los Angeles, shined with a season-high 27 points and was 6-of-10 from long distance in front of his home crowd. He helped Pacific shoot 14-of-23 (.609) from three-point range as a team.

All five starters scored in double-figures. Senior Jaden Clayton registered 17 points, a season-high eight rebounds and eight assists, while senior Elias Ralph turned in a double-double with 14 points and a season-high 13 rebounds.

Seniors Isaac Jack and Justin Rochelin were both 4-of-6 from the floor. Jack tallied 12 points, while Rochelin recorded 10.

Pacific outrebounded Pepperdine (6-19, 1-11 WCC) by a wide 44-26 margin. It resulted in a 14-1 advantage in second chance points.

The Tigers limited the Waves to a .357 shooting mark on the night. Aaron Clark led Pepperdine with 17 points.

Pacific lead 13-7 early after back-to-back threes by Wainwright. A three by Clayton extended it to 20-11 at the 9:41 mark.

Still up 28-17, Pacific went on a 10-0 spurt which included two more threes by Wainwright to make it 38-17 with 3:34 left. The Waves went on a run late in the half, but a lay-in by Ralph on Pacific's final possession gave the team a 41-25 edge at the intermission.

The Tigers were ahead 51-37 in the second half when it opened the game up with a 9-0 run as a four-point play by Wainwright made it 60-37 with 13:32 remaining. A three by Clayton kept Pacific in front 67-47 at the 10:11 mark.

Up 77-57, a three by Rochelin began a 12-0 run as a long distance shot by senior Alexis Marmolejos changed the score to 89-57 with 1:28 to go. Marmolejos hit another three to increase it to 92-59 on the team's final possession.

Pacific returns home Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tip against LMU at the Alex G. Spanos Center. The Tigers are 10-1 at home.
