No. 20 Pacific Travels for Four Games at Arizona State Tournament

TEMPE, Ariz. – In its only appearance outside the state of California this season, the No. 20 Pacific women's water polo program will take on No. 6 Arizona State, No. 18 Marist, Cal Lutheran and UC Santa Barbara at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center as part of the Arizona State Tournament.

The action starts at 9 a.m. (PT) Saturday against the host, Arizona State (8-1). Pacific (1-1) will battle Marist (3-1) at 12:45 p.m. (PT) Saturday before Sunday match-ups against Cal Lutheran (1-2) at 8:15 a.m. (PT) and UC Santa Barbara (1-7) at 12 p.m. (PT).

The Tigers opened the season by beating Fresno Pacific 23-6 before falling at No. 4 Cal 25-9. Pacific's top-three leading goal scorers are all freshman as Maria Ikonomou has netted six, Sophie Pethers five and Eleni Ikonomou four.

Pacific has played a pair of goalkeepers – sophomores Laurel Cooper and Lillian Ecklund – equally with 32 minutes apiece. The duo have combined for 14 saves. Junior Maja Lizy Dulic, a two-time All-Conference goalkeeper, has not yet made an appearance.

Pacific and Arizona State have played 15 times previously with the Tigers last winning on March 6, 2005. The Tigers are going for their first road win in the series.

Pacific is 7-3 all-time against Marist as the two squads split a pair of neutral site meetings last season. Marist has wins this season over Siena, Wagner and Brown, but is coming off a 14-9 defeat to Princeton.

The Tigers are 4-1 all-time against Cal Lutheran, but the two have not played since 2019 when the Tigers won 16-4. Cal Lutheran is a member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Pacific will conclude the weekend and their fourth of four matches against the Gauchos. It's the first meeting between the two squads since 2016 when the Tigers won 7-6.

Pacific's next home game is Saturday, March 7 at 5 p.m. against UC Davis.
