STOCKTON, Calif. – Pacific took down future WCC member UC San Diego 3-1 in the opening game of the Libby Matson but could not get the better of Fresno State in Friday's finale, falling 5-4 in 10 innings at Bill Simoni Field.
GAME 1
Senior
Amanda Bricker broke through with her first homerun of the season in the fifth inning to punctuate the Tigers (5-13) scoring for the morning, but by that point the pitching staff had gotten all the run support it would need to pull out the victory. Redshirt senior
Olivia Silvestre got an opportunity in the second inning with two runners on and ripped a double to left center that plated both runners and gave Pacific the early 2-0 lead.
The double was Silvestre's tenth of the season, making her the first student-athlete in the league to reach double digit doubles this season. Entering the day, she was ranked third in the country for doubles and now sits one double behind the national leader.
From there, junior
Justice Alcaraz did everything in her power to quell the Tritons (10-8) and did so to great success save for a UCSD RBI single in the fourth. Outside of that blemish, the junior scattered five hits across seven innings, walked no batters and struck out one. The defense behind her played exceptionally well, committing a season low zero errors. The team handled all 11 grounders and nine fly balls cleanly and only once allowed a runner past second base.
In addition to Bricker and Silvestre's extra base hits, junior
Zaedi Tagalog and senior
Jordan Hayes each recorded hits.
GAME 2
The day one finale was much less straight forward and featured much more offense – led by senior
Allie Capello's two-double afternoon. Her second double produced an RBI in the sixth inning that made it 4-2 Tigers and was her tenth of the season.
Both Bricker and Hayes carried over their momentum into the afternoon – with the former adding another extra base hit to her name, this time slicing a double down the left field line in the fifth inning that also produced one of Pacific's four runs. Hayes' two hits is her fourth multi-hit effort of the season.
Silvestre reached base on four of her five plate appearances, though only two officially count as she was hit by a pitch three times, which set a new single-game program record. Having reached via the hit by pitch seven times this season, her career total in a Tigers uniform is up to 22 – ranking her sixth on Pacific's all-time hit-by-pitch list. Should she get hit by four more pitches she will enter the top five. Nicole Matson (2008-12) is Pacific's career leader at 61.
Junior
Juliannah Jimenez hit her first RBI at the division one level in the fourth inning.
Sophomore
Alexa Lewis was Pacific's pitcher of record, working the final six innings in relief and fell to 2-2 on the season. She gave up four runs (three earned) on nine hits and a walk. She struck out four.
Fellow sophomore
Kaytee Dahlstrom was the starter and lasted four innings giving up a singular run, earned, on two hits and two walks. She struck out two.
