LA JOLLA, Calif. – For six of the next seven matches Pacific will be away from the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center, beginning Thursday at 9 a.m. with a neutral court matchup against Ball State and then heads to UC San Diego to face the Tritons on Sunday at noon.
Both Pacific (4-4) and Ball State (4-5) met in La Jolla at the same courts two seasons ago and in that meeting, Pacific rolled to a 6-1 win. Graduate
Terence Das was on singles court two that day and pulled out a straight set win only dropping two total games. Junior
Christof Schaertlin Coffey was part of a doubles duo on court three that helped put the Tigers out front early.
This season Das has a 2-1 singles record but was on his way to a third win when play was halted against UNLV – he has split his action between courts one and three thus far. Meanwhile Schaertlin Coffey is Pacific's co-leader in doubles wins with four so far this season, primarily with freshman
Reuben De Klerk on court two where the pair are 3-2. The junior also has a win with freshman
Hasith Gummuluru.
All-time the Tigers are 1-0 against the Cardinals.
Appearing for the schedule for the fourth straight season, the Tigers are going for a third win over future WCC member UCSD (5-8) after last season's matchup was canceled due to rain. In the most recent meeting in 2024, both Das and Schaertlin Coffey scored two points to lift Pacific past the Tritons.
This season, Pacific has been helped by the play of sophomores
Jonty Giesen and
Nico Rating. The former is the team's singles wins leader playing anywhere from court one to three while the latter sports a 3-2 record, all wins of which coming from court five.
Giesen has also been an impact doubles player, notching four doubles wins and a 3-1 record with sophomore
Niv Zuckerman.
Pacific is a perfect 2-0 in the all-time series versus UC San Diego.
While in La Jolla, the student-athletes will be participating in an individual doubles tournament.
