Hayes’ Homerun Powers Softball Past Cal Poly

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Senior Jordan Hayes hit her first homerun in nearly three years to drive in the three runs that proved the difference in Pacific's 5-2 win over Cal Poly Friday night at Bob Janssen Field to open the Mustang Classic.

The big fly came on the second pitch of the at bat in the fourth inning and the senior promptly planted the ball over the right centerfield fence to erase Cal Poly's (0-6) 2-0 lead and replace it with a 3-2 Tigers (2-9) lead. The three runs that came around to score were her first RBIs of the season.

Hayes' last homerun had come during her freshman year in 2023 against Saint Mary's.

Keeping on the topic of season firsts, junior Zaedi Tagalog knocked across her first RBIs of the season in the sixth to pad the Pacific lead to three runs where it would stay.

Outside of the two run scoring swings, senior Amanda Bricker notched her first multi-hit game of the season going 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored. Redshirt senior Olivia Silvestre hit her seventh double of the season and extended her streak to four consecutive games with a double – she also has a five-game hitting streak.

Junior Ariel Nava recorded her first win in the circle as a member of a division one squad, opening the first four innings of the contest and surrendered only one earned run (two total) runs on three hits and a walk. She also recorded one strikeout.

From there sophomore Kaytee Dahlstrom expertly worked the final three innings to close the door on the Mustangs, avoiding trouble in the sixth, and working a single file seventh to earn her first save.
She struck out three more batters tonight to increase her team lead to 14 punchouts this season.

Up next the team plays twice tomorrow beginning at 9:30 a.m. against Sacramento State before rematching Cal Poly at 2:30 p.m. Only the game against CPU will be streamed tomorrow and can be seen on ESPN+.
