FRESNO, Calif. – Getting off to a fast start, the Pacific women's water polo registered a wire-to-wire 14-6 win over Fresno Pacific on Wednesday at Sanger West High School.

Pacific (6-5) scored the first five goals of the game and clamped down defensively to shut down Fresno Pacific (4-7). It came after the Tigers defeated the Sunbirds 23-6 in the first meeting this year at home in the season-opener.

Scoring two goals apiece were juniors
Anna Crum,
Ella Cowan and
Laia Marsinach Ortega, and freshman
Sophie Pethers. Pacific garnered goals from 10 different student-athletes.

In net, junior
Maja Lizy Dulic and sophomore
Laurel Cooper combined for four saves, four steals and just six goals allowed.

The scoring opened with goals by Crum and freshman
Maria Ikonomou. The Tigers went up 5-0 on a strike by Cowan at the 6:49 mark of the second quarter, and led 6-1 at half after a goal by Ortega.

A goal by sophomore
Kyra Lurito upped it to 10-3 with 1:47 to go in the third. Sophomore
Olivia Turney added the final tally for Pacific to make it 14-5 midway through the fourth.

Pacific improved to 22-0 all-time against FPU.

Up next, the Tigers will open Golden Coast Conference play with a 5 p.m. road game at Azusa Pacific on Friday, Feb. 27. Pacific's next home game is Saturday, March 7 when it hosts UC Davis at 5 p.m.
