Game Recap: Women's Water Polo |

Slow Start Hinders No. 22 Pacific against No. 20 Brown

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – In its first of four games on the weekend, the No. 22 Pacific women's water polo program was topped 16-7 by No. 20 Brown in a neutral site contest Friday at the Sullivan Aquatic Center, hosted by Santa Clara as part of the Bronco Invitational.

The Tigers (3-4) fell behind 4-0 early before a goal by junior Alicia Petkov got them on the board. Though, Brown (6-2) was able to extend its lead to 8-3 at the half as Pacific couldn't muster enough offense.

Petkov and freshman Maria Ikonomou scored two goals apiece. Ikonomou is up to a team-high 19 goals in seven contests on the year.

The Tigers also garnered goals from juniors Lily Van Putten, Laia Marsinach Ortega and Ariel Cordova. Junior Ella Cowan and freshman Eleni Ikonomou dished out two assists apiece.

In net, Laurel Cooper made the start and recorded six saves in 27:01 minutes. Lillian Ecklund entered in relief and played the final 4:59.

The Tigers will return to the Sullivan Aquatic Center for a 12:15 p.m. Saturday game against No. 25 CSU Northridge. Pacific's next home game is Saturday, March 7 at 5 p.m. against UC Davis.
