Tigers Fall Short at Broncos

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – University of the Pacific women's volleyball team (4-15, 0-7 WCC) battled through a four-set match on Thursday evening, falling at Santa Clara (8-10, 4-2 WCC) at Leavey Center.

Vanessa Zussino recorded double-digit kills for the second time of her career, finishing the match with a team-high 12 on 37 attempts. Zussino also added five digs and two block assists to guide the Tigers defensively. Adeline Sirbu and Hanna Vorhies aided the team, combining for 15 kills, four digs, and three total blocks.

Alessia Couchond and Chloe Giehtbrock guided the Tigers in passing as the duo reached double figures in assists, with Couchond recording 22 and Giehtbrock adding 16, the most since she recorded 14 at UTEP on September 11.

Following a 25-16 first-set loss, Pacific evened the match at a set apiece with a solid 25-21 victory in the second frame. Battling back from an early deficit, the Tigers gained their first lead in the set at 20-19 and raced to a four-point lead following a 6-0 scoring run. Trailing 19-18 at the start of the run, Ellie Prindl and Nicole Zake posted kills, and the Tiger defense forced the Broncos into three straight attack errors.

Despite Santa Clara cutting its deficit to two, 23-21, Pacific ended the second with back-to-back points, highlighted by a Zake service ace to complete the 25-21 victory.

The Broncos responded in the next two frames, winning 25-10 and 26-24 in the third and fourth sets to secure the match victory.

Pacific remains on the road to complete the weekend when it takes on San Francisco at noon on Saturday, Oct. 17, at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
