No. 17 Pacific Travels for Stiff Test at No. 4 Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. – In its first road game of the year, the 17th-ranked Pacific women's water polo program will make the short trip to No. 4 Cal for a 5:30 p.m. game Saturday at the Spieker Aquatics Complex.
 
Pacific (1-0) opened the season last week with a 23-6 victory over Fresno Pacific. The Tigers garnered goals from 11 different student-athletes including four apiece from freshmen Sophie Pethers and Maria Ikonomou.
 
Pacific followed it up the next day with a 22-6 exhibition win over UC Merced. The Tigers again saw 11 student-athletes score including four apiece from senior Amaya Leiby and sophomore Lauryn Lucero.
 
Sophomore goalkeepers Laurel Cooper and Lillian Ecklund have split time in net. The duo combined for nine saves in the win over Fresno Pacific.
 
Cal is off to a 5-0 start with wins over No. 18 Michigan, No. 5 Hawaii, No. 11 UC Irvine, No. 10 Fresno State and No. 15 San Jose State. The Golden Bears finished 19-6 overall last season and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Pacific's next home game is Saturday, March 7 at 5 p.m. against UC Davis. The Tigers will play four games next weekend at the Arizona State Tournament in Tempe, Arizona.
