Pacific Falls in Hard Fought Contest With San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Pacific was one extended run away from a victory, but San Francisco responded every time to take the low scoring 68-61 decision Saturday afternoon at the Sobrato Center.

After falling behind eight at the end of the first quarter, the Tigers (8-12, 3-6 WCC) on multiple occasions pulled the deficit to three or fewer points courtesy of the work of Pacific's scoring trio of senior Sydney Ward, sophomore Winner Bartholomew, and freshman Sophia Mindermann.

Bartholomew was Pacific's go-to weapon on the offensive end scoring a team high 19 points (8-15 FG, 3-4 FT), her fourth outing of the past five games with 19 points or more. She also added five rebounds.

While she may have been the most Tiger scoring the basketball, no player was more impactful on the game overall than Ward. Producing a final line of 13 points (5-11 FG, 3-8 3pt), 15 rebounds, four steals and a block, Ward matched her career highs in both rebounds and steals while setting a new personal best in three-pointers.

Her 15 boards are not only the most by a Tiger this season but also ranks as tied for the eighth most by a player in the conference this season. The second 15+ rebound game of her career, she is the first Tiger since Valerie Higgins (2018-21) to register multiple such games wearing the Pacific uniform.

Ward's block tied her with Alicia Smith for the fifth most all-time in program history.

After hitting three more three-pointers, Mindermann raised her average to two threes made per game this season, which ties her for fourth most in the WCC. Of those six student-athletes averaging two or more made threes per game, Mindermann is the only freshman to do so. She now projects to connect on 59 threes this season, tying her for 17th in program history – if she can accomplish cracking the single season list, she would be the third entrant of the Head Coach Bradley Davis era and the first since GeAnna Luaulu-Summers during the 2017-18 season.

As a team, the Tigers and Dons came in near even in almost every category except free throws where Pacific sent USF to the line 23 times, making 15, where the Tigers only took 12 trips, making eight.

Up next the team remains on the road for a rematch with LMU. Last season the Tigers defeated the Lions at Gersten Pavilion. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
