LOS ANGELES – The Tigers hit on a conference play high 11 three-pointers Thursday night but could not slow down LMU in an 87-66 loss at Gersten Pavilion.
Freshman
Sophia Mindermann was the Tigers' (8-13, 3-7 WCC) main weapon beyond the arc hitting on a career best 5-for-8 three-pointers, making her the first Pacific student-athlete in over a year to do so and the first to do it on the road since Sam Ashby hit seven at UNLV during the 2021-22 season. The freshman was also getting her teammates involved, matching her career high four assists set back on opening night.
The main facilitator, however, in the Pacific offense was sophomore
Daria Nestorov who finished one assist shy of the double-double, producing 14 points and nine assists, a new personal best. Nestorov's scoring ability has usually been indicative of Pacific's fortunes as despite the setback tonight, the team is still 6-2 in games she scores in double figures in. The Serbia native also picked up two more steals, extending her streak to now seven consecutive games with a steal.
Senior
Sydney Ward continued to show out as a presence on both ends, matching her career high three three-pointers on her way to a 14-point, six rebound stat line. Also within that line was a block, her 88th of her career, which officially gave her sole possession of fifth place in Tigers' history.
Rounding out the starting five's nights, redshirt sophomore
Stella Szabo provided a lift for the Tigers by matching her career high nine points. The Sweden native reached the nine points courtesy of two triples, which matched her career high, and three free throws, a new personal best.
LMU (13-8, 7-3 WCC) meanwhile shot 61% (34-for-56) on the night, marking the Lions as the first team to shoot over 60% on Pacific since the 2017-18 season.
Saturday will be the final bye date for the team as they will not take the court again until Thursday, Feb. 5 at home against Santa Clara. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
