Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Tigers Grind Out Victory Over Washington State

STOCKTON, Calif. – A 15-0 run out of halftime took a tightly contested game and turned it into a double-digit Pacific victory as the women's basketball program defeated Washington State 65-53 Thursday night at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

The Tigers (8-11, 3-5 WCC) were able to construct that run with a balanced attack that saw five players get buckets, including sophomore Daria Nestorov. The sophomore got two of her game-high 15 points during the five minute and 55 second run, her best game scoring since the WCC opener on December 28.  En route to her 15 points was an ability to score at all both levels, going 3-for-6 from beyond the arc and 6-for-13 from the floor overall and a team high four assists.

On the defensive end she was able to disrupt Washington State (4-18, 3-6 WCC) with three steals. At home this season, Nestorov has averaged 2.3 steals per game.

Also part of the run was senior Sydney Ward and sophomore Winner Bartholomew, both of whom produced similar stat lines. In addition to scoring four points each in the 15-0 run, the pair each finished just shy of a double-double with 12 points a piece and nine rebounds for Ward and eight for Bartholomew.

Since the start of conference play, only once has Ward finished with fewer than seven rebounds and has averages 7.9 rebounds per game, which ranks third in the WCC. She also contributed four assists and a block to her final line.

Freshman Sophia Mindermann continued to show out as one of the conference's premier snipers adding three more three-pointers to her season ledger. Of the nine players in the WCC averaging at least two three-pointers since the start of conference play, Mindermann is the only freshman to do so. She finished the contest tonight with 11 points.

With her three triples she bumped her projection up to 57 threes at the end of the season, which would land her on the top-20 Pacific single season list.

The Tigers' rebounded to produce their best defensive showing of conference play, holding Washington State to just 30% from the floor and 20% from beyond the arc – the sixth opponent Pacific has held to 20% or worse from deep this season while the 30% total field goal shooting was the team's best performance of the season.

Coming up next for Pacific is a trip to the Hilltop to face San Francisco on Saturday at 2 p.m. That game will be shown on ESPN+.
