MTEN Preview vs. UCSB and UCLA/UNM 2026

Men’s Tennis Heads South for ITA Kickoff Weekend

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The marquee matchups of the non-conference schedule, Pacific heads to the campus of UCLA to take part in the 2026 ITA Kickoff Weekend, opening with a matchup against UC Santa Barbara on Friday at 10 a.m. followed by a match with either New Mexico or tenth ranked UCLA on Saturday.

A familiar face for the Tigers (1-0), Friday's matchup with the Gauchos (1-0) is the 34th meeting all-time between the two schools making UCSB the most common opponent in school history. Recent matchups have gone the way of the Gauchos as Pacific is searching for the first win in the series since 2016. In last season's meeting in Santa Barbara, the Tigers took the doubles point but faltered in the singles portion to suffer a 4-1 setback.

This season, each team enters the match having rolled their most recent opponent. Pacific defeated Jessup 7-0 behind dominating singles performances from junior Christof Schaertlin Coffey, sophomore Vraj Patel and freshman Hasith Gummuluru. All three conceded fewer than three games won per set highlighted by Schaertlin Coffey's 6-1, 6-1 trouncing of his opponent.

Both schools finished last season nationally ranked, with the Tigers coming in 55th and UC Santa Barbara ranked 38th.

If Pacific were to face New Mexico (2-0), it would be only the ninth meeting in program history and the first since 2019. The Tigers are 1-8 all-time against the Lobos but defeated two of their Mountain West Conference contemporaries last season in Grand Canyon and UNLV.

UCLA (1-0) and Pacific have only matched up once prior, with the Bruins taking the win in 2005.

Weekend live streams and live stats can be found at the same place on the UCLA athletics website.
