MTEN Recap vs. Jessup 2026

Men’s Tennis Opens Season with Clean Victory

Box Score STOCKTON, Calif. – On its home court, the Pacific men's tennis team soundly defeated Jessup on Sunday, claiming a 7-0 sweep at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.

The Tigers (1-0) quickly took the doubles point behind dominating performances from sophomores Jonty Giesen and Niv Zuckerman on court one and sophomore Vraj Patel/graduate Terence Das on court two.

Dating back to last season, Patel has won 12 straight doubles matches with now a fourth different partner.

The singles portion of the match went just as smoothly for Head Coach Cliff Awuy's squad, clinching the match in rapid succession with straight set wins from freshman Hasith Gummuluru on court six, junior Christof Schaertlin Coffey on court two and Giesen on court three.

Wins from Das, Patel, and Zuckerman on courts one, four and six rounded out the sweep. Das' performance today is his return to the court since suffering a season ending injury in March 2025.

The win is Awuy's first as the leader of the program and sets the team up to compete in the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Los Angeles as the team will face UC Santa Barbara on January 23 at 10 a.m. followed by a Saturday matchup with either host UCLA, or New Mexico.
